I have come across a British firm which offers brass padlocks with custom engraving, which could be a design, names or initials, a date, or even a photograph. Here is another small Stainless Steel padlock, that is opened with a conventional key and was originally designed for marine use. So many choices, yet seemingly none that meet all three of my key holder's requirements: attractive key, attractive lock, secure lock.

Of course attractive is in the eye of the beholder. She finds both the Master lock we use now and its key to be way too utilitarian. She wears the key on a necklace and would prefer one that is more ornate and decorative. For the lock she'd prefer a heart shape with engraving of her choice.

Of the locks that come closest to meeting those requirements, it seems their mechanism is trivial enough that they are easily openable even without the key.

Have I missed anything that comes close to this?

whcrumb: As you have observed from reading the posts on this thread, I have attempted to provide a wide variety of alternatives to the standard brass Master padlocks which are used by most CD wearers. They have come in different metals, shapes and finishes, and some can be considered to be of "jewelry quality." However, as you pointed out, they often represent a compromise between the three requirements of your KH: "attractive key, attractive lock, secure lock." While many will satisfy one or two of these conditions, it appears to be extremely difficult to find a small padlock which meets all three. I believe that two manufacturers, Symbolic Treasures and Lust Lock, come the closest to providing what you and your KH are looking for. The heart-shaped padlocks offered by Symbolic Treasures are made of Sterling Silver, are engravable, and have fancy keys which are suitable for wearing on a necklace. I have now come across a custom option which is available from the manufacturing firm Symbolic Treasures, which has previously been mentioned in this thread. It seems that they are able to create a beautiful Sterling Silver pendant, whose top combines the locked male's sexual symbol surrounded by a female's heart symbol, with a working copy of the Master Lock key at the bottom.
