Dulled Finish

My Mature Metal device is about five years old. I have been wearing it almost continuously. The parts of the device that is in constant contact with the skin is changing. Mostly the inside of the base ring and the cage part where the penis goes in.

It has gone from being shiny, like it was when new, to a dull sheen. Using painting terms, I would best describe it as a satin finish. The rest of the cage that doesn't contact skin is still shiny.

I have cleaned all the parts the same way so I know its not the way I clean it.

I would like to bring the shine back to it. Maybe its my imagination but they just don't seem to be as slippery as they once were. Not as bad as, but kind of like, a plastic device isn't slippery.

My question is; does anyone have an idea on how to bring the shine back to these pieces?

I would think that it would have to be buffed using some jeweler's rouge and a high-speed rotary tool.

It's nearly impossible to buff the *inside* of those cages. Maybe a small Dremel wheel might work.

The first thing I would try would be to use an SOS pad in a pan of warm water. The SIS is super fine steel wool, and the soap will provide some lubricity for the pad. Working it back and forth, maybe even a section of the pad on the handle of a wooden spoon, might brighten it up enough for you.

I was going to try MM but I know they're busy and I thought someone here may have an idea.

I hadn't thought of the SOS pad, I'll try that. I know stainless is hard so I shouldn't have to worry about adding scratches.

"Hard" and "hard to machine" are not equivalent. As it happens, 316 grade stainless is soft, with regard to scratching and nicking. However, it bonds very well to itself, making it resistant to material separation by cutting (sawing, milling, turning, etc.). But little imperfections on the surface can pretty easily be smoothed over by buffing.

At home, I use a mix of steel wool pads and those fine scotchbrite pads in soapy water.

Doing a little more checking around I found a stainless steel cleaner for kitchen appliances. Is this something to try or is this different than what the rings are made of?

Dremmel felt pads with metal polish. Got the polish at Home Depot—super fast and works like a champ!

Sure, that might work with a soft cloth. or even a cleanser, like Barkeep's Friend or Bon Ami.

This is the only product I have used for years on my stainless steel kitchen appliances because it works that well.
