Hi,
I am not locked that often, maybe 3-4 times per year. It's more my thing than her thing. I am locked right now (yay us!) and my wife seems to be enjoying it. The last time we had a heart to heart about device usage was a few months ago (yesterday she just told me to lockup!). We both agreed that the hygiene piece was the biggest downer. I inferred that could mean that if I had a more cleanable device, we might lock up more.
I have a CB-6000S and a mini-birdlock. I haven't worn the Birdlock in a long time precisely because it smells terrible and that bothers me. I am getting better with the CB-6000S and like how low profile it is.
"Security" is the lowest on the list of priorities. I enjoy being locked and I just wouldn't "cheat". So, I guess my priorities are cleanliness followed by low detectability. Not much else matters to me. I don't see us ever going 24/7.
From this forum, it seems like the metal devices could be the best for those criteria. I like the look of the mature metal jailbird. So, my questions are:
Are metal devices such as the Jailbird really a lot better for maintaining hygiene?
If so, I have read that "shorter is better". My flaccid size varies substantially ~ no joke. Is there such a thing as "too small"?
I thank you for your input. Given our infrequency of lockup play, I don't think it's worth the $ for us, but I am thinking that my wife may want to lock me up more if we solve this "problem".
Cheers

Re: Best device for hygiene?
I used a CB3000 for ages, but wanted to go for something that was better for hygiene as well. So I went with steel. Like you, we don't practice it frequently enough or strict enough to justify the cost of the Jail Bird (which, by the way, would be my first choice overall), so I purchased a Birdcage.
The Birdcage proved to be much better for hygiene. I can shower with it on and dry off completely, unlike the CB3000 that never got completely clean. But I'm finding that the birdcage is too big even for me who fills it out when erect. I think I should have gotten a Captus, which you can find at Extreme Restraints.
If you're still not wanting to pay in the $100 range, you can always go to eBay or Amazon and pay bargain basement prices. But then you're likely dealing with Chinese knockoffs that may or may not be a ripoff.
But yes, steel devices, and preferably stainless steel devices, are much better for hygiene. The consensus is that the device should gently press against the tip of your flaccid penis to be considered a good fit. Others in this forum are more qualified to answer that one for sure.

Re: Best device for hygiene?
We used a CB6000 for the first year, and it was hard to maintain hygiene without completely removing the device and cleaning both the device and myself at least every couple days, if not daily. We upgraded to a MM Jailbird and can wear it indefinitely and keep things clean with routine showering. If you can afford it, the JB is a great option for both hygiene, fit and concealment.
Sincerely,

Re: Best device for hygiene?
I'm sure many CB users (and their keyholders) are pleased with their selection, and find maintaining hygiene is no problem. My wife simply didn't like the look of them, and from my reading regarding their use, it appears that it seems to take more effort to keep them clean....a lot of discussions about q-tips and such. Having worn an MM JailBird for months on end, I know all it takes to keep me and the device clean is a daily sudsing in the shower; they're so open that there's virtually no 'covered areas' that require special cleaning techniques. And as an extraordinarily lazy man, that's a good thing; despite the fact that Beth has had those lips and tongue of hers in every place imaginable, she's quite fussy about funky smells.
I'm not a gynecologist, but I'll take a very close look.
Re: Best device for hygiene?
My experience says that my cage (my avatar) is the best cage for hygiene. I don't have to remove it for cleaning. It has excellent ventilation that avoids inside dampness followed by bad smelling.
Except passing through security gates, I do not see any disadvantage in my cage.

I have a MM Jail Bird. Hygiene is easy and excellent. The closed tube devices are more problematic.
