To anyone who has a MM Jail Bird...sizing questions.

Post by NewToCB6K »

Hello all,

I've tried a CB6K...which didn't fit...and a Bird Cage, which fits (with some work) but sometimes gets too painful to wear. Admittedly I should have done more research before jumping head first (pun intended) into the world of chastity but I was thinking with my head and not my head, LOL. Anyway I came across Mature Metal's site today. When I initially saw their Jail Bird I didn't like the look as much as the Bird Cage so I bypassed it. Only after seeing how many sizing options are available did I want to kick myself for not looking into it! What I really want to be able to do is hand over the keys to my wife and not have to worry about getting jammed up in pain at work or on the road like I do with the Bird Cage. I carry one of the spare keys with me while wearing the BC and in the back of my head I know I can get out...I want to remove that option and know full well that the only way I get out is with the wife's permission.

My question(s) to the owners of a customer Jail Bird is...how exact do you have to be on measurements? Are there any really critical measurements you need to have, is there room for error, etc. Without pestering too much any and all advice as to what to measure, where to measure, how to measure, etc would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

How exact do you want the fit to be? This is the joy of a custom device. From my experience I would say you want the diameter to be correct to 1/8". I have had jailbirds that are 1 1/8, 1 1/4, 1 3/8, and you can tell the difference between them. For the length I would suggest that you probably want to be within about 1/4", maybe as much 1/2" depending on the length. The diameter of the base ring should also be within 1/8". When You start to approach your lower limit (especially on the base ring) you might be able to benefit from a smaller interval but that usually takes a while. I have a couple of rings that are only 1.5mm different and I can tell on those but wouldn't be able to if they were larger (ie, not near the limit of what I can wear).

To me the most critical is diameter of the tube. Next is the length of the tube. This can also change depending on diameter of the tube. At some point the volume of the tube comes in to play, to a small extent you can trade length for width and maintain the same volume. Third is the diameter of the base ring. It is very important to get this right for long term comfort but it is also (in my experience) the one part that is going to change the most. Fortunately it is also the easiest / cheapest to change. I always recommend getting multiple base rings if you can. Usually one in the size you think you need and one a little bit smaller. If possible I would also get one a little bit bigger. It is nice to have them both for getting acclimated but also so you can switch to a bigger ring if you are having a little temporary discomfort for some reason. I find that if I go to the next larger ring I can usually work through it without removing the device completely.

I found wearing my CB6000s and making the necessary adjustments to go down in sizes while still being comfortable very helpful when it came time to order my JailBird. Maybe I was lucky but the length and diameter of the CB cage was perfect for what I wanted. That was important since making adjustments to a JB cage is an expensive endeavor. Gap and base ring size changes are easier.

I too agree with Atone that it's nice to have multiple base ring sizes including a double base ring.

Well I want the fit to be snug enough that I can't get out at all, but comfortable enough I don't have to worry about needing to keep a spare key with me, but wthout falling off obviously< LOL. According to the specs the BC is a 2" ID on the base ring which is very uncomfortable after more than a couple hours. It doesn't list the diameter but the circumference is 5.5" and I could probably stand to have a tad extra room there but I really think if the base ring wasn't so painful I'd be fine, length is also good.

Also curious on the length. Everyone says to measure while flaccid, but erect versus flaccid is quite different in terms of length. The BS is just about perfect on the length but they state overall length of 6 inches, and that measurement I am thinking is on the outer radius of the curve of the cage and not simply base to tip on a straight line.

Not really possible. The only way it would be at all possible is with a split or hinged ring. Even then it would probably be possible by someone that knew what they were doing. It would be so tight that it would not be wearable for any length of time. I don't usually make absolute statements but I am pretty confident on this one. If you don't want any chance of coming out then you need either a full belt or a piercing of some sort.

I believe that you could get pretty close to not being able to get back in though. This is almost good enough though as what are you going to do once your hanging out (with the rest locked to your balls)? Sure, you could get off. But then what?

I played around with my smaller steelheart one time and could still pull out. I was not able to get back in though, at least not at that time. My technique has improved since then but I still doubt I could get back in. It would certainly take a fair bit of time.

My desire is to someday get a piercing. I want to *know* that I can't get out without the key (or breaking something).

That would 1.75" diameter.

You are at a real disadvantage here. Being bigger makes it much harder to find a device that works. My Steelheart is less than 3" overall length and only 32mm diameter. It conceals in my pants very well and almost never shows any bulges. When I use the 35mm tube, same length, it occasionally shows. I can only image how much a 6" long tube would show. Of course a 6" long tube with 1.75" inside diameter would probably fit me fine, when fully erect.

Agree with Atone. Comfort first, security second. Took a few adjustments but I got it down to a size on the base ring that is comfortable during the day and manageable during an attempted erection. Anything smaller and I would have difficulty getting it on and truly in pain when aroused. Hinged rings were not an option for me long-term. Could I now pull myself out the back, maybe on a few days a month (hey, I live in New England and yesterday it was 5 degrees outside) :o but I really don't believe I would get myself back in.

Then there is always the issue if I did manage to get myself out and couldn't get back in. Well the wife would be pretty pissed off at me. Could be a deal breaker and I'm not ready to give this up.

Perhaps I was a little too direct in "not being able to get out" but rather meant what you alluded to as in that I don't want to be able to "cheat the system" and slide out or back in easily. I was the key to be the way in/out more or less. As for the BC if the ring was larger, and the cage had a larger diameter by just a tad I think it'd be perfect. Thinking of maybe a 2.5 or 2.75 inch ring and 1.875 or 2 inch on the JB would be just about perfect.

Shame it takes 6+ weeks for them to get an order out!

And perhaps I'm confused but how do you guys measure your cage lengths? Say you're 3 inches long soft and 6 erect....you should get which length?

My BC cage is 5.5" in total length and I have plenty of room in the length department and it allows me to "grow" during arousal to the full length of the tube. Having a device that's very close to my flaccid length seems like it would create problems if I started getting a stiffy.

Just want to make sure I make the right decision.

I'm a "grower" not a "shower". Flaccid I'm around 1 3/4" so I have a 2" long cage. I prefer to "stifle the stffy"

So what happens when you get aroused/erect? Is it painful??? :?:
