all in all it took about 12 hours start to finish and about $50 in materials

I dont have a tig machine however I'm sure I can do weld well enough with my cracker box and make my self one. I want to follow along and hear of any problems incurred because my first thought is once on it will pivot or hinge under the lock

That was all done with a miller mug but it makes for a lot of grind sand and polish time you would be right about the pivot but I thought of that so I bent the top so that at max pivot it parallel to the base ring

Nice job at making your own device. One of the better "home builds" I've seen. It looks like your gap size is quite flexible?

Actually looks pretty good...some of the rings look a little misshapen but all good.

Did you source the rings first and then made a body/cage??

Nope everything you see there started as straight pieces of 316ss rod or flat rube from there I made the rings with a pipe in a vice put them together and welded it all the cage is not perfectly symmetrical but I did it all by eye so I would expect some variance
