hip style or waist style?

hi
as far as I understand. Hip style has waistband opened at lower end while the "Waist" style has waistband opened at higher end. I would like to know how to choose between hip style and waist style and what's the advantage and disadvantage of each?

I wish I could help but have no experience with these. I am hopeful someone provides some advice though I have wondered the same thing. Not that I am planning on a full belt, at least not anytime soon.
