I'm going to switch from a CB6000s to a Steelworxx Looker 02 and I want to make sure I get the base ring size right. I use the 1 7/8 ID ring on the CB and it fits great. If you're familiar with that device though you know that the top part of the ring where the connecting pieces fit together is a flatter arc. The height of the ring then is 1 3/4. The width translates to 47.6mm and the height to 44.4mm. My quandary is whether to go with the 45mm ring or the 47mm ring on the Looker.
I have tried many times to go down in base ring size from the 1 7/8 to the 1 3/4 ring on the CB and it's just too small so I know there is a real gap between 45mm and 47mm.
For those of you who have made this switch, does the lower profile of the metal ring allow you to go smaller? Does the anatomical ring allow you to go smaller?
Base ring size. Switching from plastic to metal.

Thanks for this post, it will be of use for ma also. Look forward to reading the replies
Re: Base ring size. Switching from plastic to metal.
It is fairly common to go to a smaller ring when you go to a metal device. This seems to be particularly true of the Steelworxx devices because of the larger diameter steel the rings are made of. This isn't true for everyone though and unfortunately I don't think anyone has figured out a pattern that would help you determine which is best for you. I have dealt with this by buying two rings, one the size I am wearing and one the next size smaller. Not the cheapest way but saves the time and cost of sending it back.
Oh, and I don't think it is the lower profile as much as the smoothness of the steel that makes a difference. No proof on that but that seems to be the consensus.
