PSA levels

Post by eroslocked »

My doctor wants me to have my regular PSA test prior to my next visit to him. Usually my PSA result is very low and of no concern but since my last test I have been in fairly long term denial (which my wife and I both enjoy). I have read on the www that this may produce higher then normal readings although the info is confusing. So should I stop the denial for a few weeks and wank a few times before my test or just not worry.

Is there some reason you need a 'regular' PSA test?

I seem to recall seeing/hearing something about PSA tests not being particularly useful. I had a discussion with my doc about prostate cancer, as well as reading a quantity of info about it. There is some concern in the medical community that many men have needlessly had their prostates removed, because even if one *did* develop prostate cancer it is usually such a slow growing thing that you are much more likely to succumb to something else long before that becomes an issue.

It's a regular test because I am over 50 yo.

Ah, I see. So am I, which is what prompted my discussion with my doc. I don't do that one.
