I was able to pull out of my old CB's too, but as you stated I wasn't really satisfied with the end result. Neither my wife nor I wanted to go the piercing route so we decided on a custom metal CD. The time spent in my CB6000s really helped with getting the proper fit for my MM JB. After some tweaking of the base ring size I can now say that pulling out the back is pretty much impossible.
