CB6000 Durability

Post by Apokryph »

I have recently acquired a cb6000 and I have heard many stories about them splitting, cracking, and generally having a low durability. Is there anything I can do to increase the lifespan of my new device?

It will inevitably break unless you super glue the seam. Get one, wear it for a while, see what combination is most comfortable, then ultimately get a steel device.

Agreed. Mine started splitting open within a week. I did not split it all the way open, nor did I split it all the way open to fix it. I did cut a small piece of sand paper, sanded it inside and out along the seam. I even ran the sandpaper through the parts where it was splitting open. Then, my wife did the gluing. We also put some electric tape on the inside along the seam so the glue would not go all the way through and cause trouble. So far, it's been holding up now for well over a month and probably will continue to hold up until we can afford a good steel device.

I've had one for about a month. Worn pretty much every day for about 14 to 16 hours and (fingers crossed) no trouble so far.

I purchased my CB6000s almost 2 years ago from Keptforher.com. They were great to deal with and after about 3 months of almost constant wear it broke at the seam. I took the advise of many on the blogs and super glued it back together but it eventually broke again and again. The seam was starting to look pretty disgusting too from all the glue!

I contacted Tom at Keptforher and they replaced it under warranty. :D Receiving the new one I looked at where the stress points were on the device and wanted to see if I could prevent any future breaks since the warranty was ending soon. What I came up with has worked for me, "knock on wood" for over a year now.

Now matter what spacer you use on the center locking pin the other two pins when the cage has side ways pressure put on it creates stress on the cage seam. To minimize this stress I went to my local hardware store and purchased a small piece of plastic tubing for about $1.25. The same tubing which is used in your refrigerator's ice/water maker. I cut them to size (some filing/sanding also needed) and slid one over each of the two side guide posts. Now the stress and pressure your CB takes during everyday life is distributed over all three pins evenly. Haven't had a problem since. I'm locked up for weeks at a time with no release and I wear tight jeans almost everyday.

Good Luck.
Happily secured since 4/2010 :-)

CB6000 Durability

For me being a heavy guy in anycase, I will look at durability, with a dash or weight and of course it mustnt look to shite...

Because of two reasons:

I am not competitive and only require the use of the equipment for my own pleasure and enjoyment

I want something that works well and that will last without me having to spend big bucks to have it fixed or even replaced

I will
