Better 6000s

Post by corey22901 »

Saw this modified 6000s on a board and thougth that this makes so much sense - if it structually holds up. I would think the makers of the 6000 would learn from the metal guys that opening up the structure would be very popular.

I have been in the 6000s for 10 months full time and now considering MM for the long haul. It fits great - but when you finally decide to go long - comfort and cleanliness becomes critical.

This is Harry Haversaker's CB6k. It's on his blog "What does Harry have to say?". The link is on keyheld.com.

I suspect that the big holes will make the flesh bulge out, but if there are enough big holes, then it's more like one of the birdcage style devices, so it could end up being a better fit. I'm tempted to try this with one of my 3ks that I've got hanging around.

Hi, Corey,

This is my CB6Ks... I was having an issue with moisture trapped inside the device, so decided to take an old one (it had split and cracked in several places and was replaced by AL Enterprises) and experiment. I'm back to wearing the solid cage for now, just for a change of pace.

I don't why see the "holey" cage wouldn't stand up in the long run. There are no obvious stress points, so it should be as tough as the original.

As Tom mentioned, there's a lot of bulging going on when my wife decides to get me wound up, but there really isn't any discomfort.

I don't think AL Enterprises will be offering anything similar anytime soon. It took me a couple of hours one evening to open up the holes in the cage with a carbide burr in my Dremel tool, but for a manufacturer to develop the tooling to mold the cage halves in a similar way would be exceedingly expensive.

There is definitely an advantage to the added ventilation. Give it a try...

All the best,
Harry

I've only had/worn mine for about 3 weeks and I'm getting ready to close off the 3 holes on each side because I'm getting bulges of flesh poking through each day and last night when I was allowed to remove the device for hygiene, the bulges were quite disgusting looking. I would think that opening the holes wider or creating more holes like those pictured would just allow for more skin to press through and create larger bulges.
