Steelworxx Steelheart sizing questions

Post by whistlersix »

Okay, I didn't want to hijack danj's steelheart thread with my own questions, so I thought I'd start one for myself and get some advice and feedback.

I'm currently in a CB3000, which I've had for about 4 years and worn off and on. I think the longest I've worn it straight, non-stop, not even out for cleanings was about 18 days. The longest I've gone continuous, with brief unlock periods is a little over two months and had no problems at all. It's very comfortable, or at least as comfortable as a plastic cage can be when it's locked around your cock and balls :D. It's relatively easy to clean and fairly effective and secure. In the shower, and out sometimes, I'm able to pull out very easily and while I'd like to find something more secure, I'm not to concerned about it. I'm more enthralled by the idea of just wearing a device than I am about the realities of it being inescapable. I've considered a PA and have even brought up the idea to my wife, but she isn't keen on the idea, and since it's not a turn on for me and the only reason I'd get one is for security, it doesn't seem worth it.

With all that said, I'd like to get a Steelheart. I've not asked her about the aesthetics of the CB3000, but I'm pretty sure she doesn't like the looks of it. She's still not totally on board with the whole chastity thing though, so I'm not sure if it's the clear plastic device itself or chastity in general. I think she'd like the looks of the Steelheart. It's almost like a piece of stainless steel jewelry. Plus, the stainless steel is a better hygienic option too.

Also, there are some small issues with the CB3000 and comfort. The holes where the pins insert into have some sharp edges that sometime rub the wrong way. I've also split the cage one time while wearing it, which was not a fun experience! I've glued it back together and it's held, but I don't want to keep pushing my luck. I'd like to relegate the CB3000 as a backup and go full metal.

The specs of my CB300 from the AL Enterprises website and what I've figured out:
CD 3000 measurements:
Ring size: 1 5/8" Solid ring purchased sometime after the original CB3000 purchase
Tube Inside Diameter: 1.45"
Length: 3" (from the AL Enterprises website)
Gap size: 6 mm (measured the spacer with a ruler while it was locked on)

The fit is good, except I'm sure I can go shorter. I'm not small, but I'm not huge either. Erect I'm pretty much an even 6" and not very girthy (is that a word?). When not erect, I can be anywhere from 2 to 3 inches, but there's a lot of fluctuation. When flaccid the head of my penis often binds up and sticks on the top part of the cage before it flares out. I guess most often when I look at it, unless I'm hard or semi-hard, there is at least a 1/2 inch of space left in the end of the tube of the CB3000. As for diameter, I'm often touching the inside walls of the cage.

When I convert those sizes above to millimeters, it comes to this:
Ring Size: 41.3 mm
Tube Inside Diameter:36.83 mm
Length: 76.2 mm
Gap Size: 6 mm

Looking at the Steelheart on the website, getting close to those numbers would look something like this:
Ring Size:40 mm
Inside Diameter: 35 mm
Length: 76 mm
Gap Size: ??

I'm sort of confused on what the length of the Steelheart should be. Should I cut that 76 mm down some? If I knock off a half an inch, that would make it 64 mm in length? Or does that seem to short? Also, should I be comparing the lengths of the CB3000 and the Steelheart? Is it making an apples to apples comparison?

I've done my research but I just want to get some advice and confirmation from others who've purchased the Steelheart before I sink $300 minimum into one. Plus, I want to have all my information for the next time my wife asks me what I want for Christmas this year :D

I think most of your measurements look pretty good. The hardest one is the length, steelworxx uses a different method than MM or AL. When I ordere my first one I told him how long I wanted the tube part to be and he was able to do that. The OAL is between 11-13mm longer than the tube length on mine. The gap is a challenge too, it also varies with the ring size. I am currently in a combination with the gap at about 11mm, I don't think I would go too much smaller. One combination that I have has a gap of 16mm and that is too big, one cold day I had a pop out of my right nut. Got it back in but it wasn't too pleasant.

Are you looking at 76mm for the OAL on the Steelheart or is that just the tube? If it is OAL length that is probably pretty good, if it is only the tube then I think it may be a little long.

Hi Atone,

Thanks for the feedback. That's probably the one I'm most confused about, is the length issue. I'm not sure what the overall length should be.

I think AL uses the measurement from under the penis at the base of the scrotum for the length measurement to get the 3"? Is that correct? And it looks like Steelworxx uses from the base of the ring to the end of the tube for the measurement. So their length is the width of the ring + the gap size + length of the tube.

I've been measuring the last couple of days (as well as I could anyway while locked up) and I'm on average 2.5" (63.5 mm) in length when just sitting in my tube, maybe even shorter at times. That's from the underside. So I guess my overall length:

63.5mm (tube length) + 5 mm (gap width at the top) + 2 mm (actual ring width, this is an estimate) = 70.5 mm

That seems short, but maybe I"m just being timid. I know everyone here says shorter is better.

Just for comparison....
I am about 2.5 as well (just sitting around)... My first Steelheart was 95 mm length total. It is comfortable, but too long. I just ordered a shorter Steelheart at 70 mm length total.

So, based on that, your 70 mm total length sounds about right. But, just my opinion, if you are worried about it, an extra 5 or 10 mm will not be an issue. You would probably be happy with 75 or 80 if that makes you more comfortable (better to have an extra 5 or 10 mm at the end than for it to be too short).

This is just my experience, yours can.... and probably will.... vary!

I just got my steelheart in and ordered it 90mm in lenght. i've not had it that long but can already tell that it is too long, though not by much. I probably would prefer an 75-80mm lenght tube. i'm on average 2 3/4 -3 inches when soft. I was really comfortable in the CB6K short and tired to measure based off of that, plus had to add 5mm for my PA and fixing. I do wish it was a bit smaller but overall it is still amazingly comfortable.
hope that helps some...

My Steelheart just arrived today, so I can't tell you much about wearing it yet. After about an hour or two, I will say it is very comfortable and it is solid. A beautiful piece of workmanship.

As for measurements, I measured my flaccid length several times each day for about a week. I measured from the base of the penis and measured along the top to the tip. I fluctuated from about 3-4 inches, but was most often about 3.5" flaccid. So went with an 89mm overall length, and in the short time I've been wearing it, so far so good. When you compare to the CB devices, don't forget that the spacers add length, too. IMO, the CB device gives the wearer more usable info on ring size, then on length when it comes to helping measure for a custom device. I think taking a ton of flaccid length measurements is the best way to get the right length of a custom device.

Back on ring size, I followed Thumper's advice to go with a smaller ring diameter than you have on the plastic cage. The steel is smooth and less "grippy" than the plastic. I was comfortable wearing the 1.75" ring (44.4mm) on the cb-6000s and went with a 43mm and 42mm for the Steelheart. I'm now wearing the 42mm; really too early to say, but it seems fine.

As for gap, I wasn't sure what to do, so went with Dietmar's standard which I believe is 15mm. Again, too early to tell, but it seems fine at this early stage. I'd be careful though, from what I understand, it is hard to translate gaps from the CB-xxxx devices to these custom devices. My thought was I'm fairly average on endowment, so I'd be best going with most guys do on gap.

Once I have a few days under my belt :D I'll post some more feedback on my thread.

Danj,
After you've had a few days in it, I am curious what is required for good cleaning and hygiene and your opinion on it. That would be my concern with that device.

I will cover that for sure. Had a good night in my SH. Very comfortable and sexy device. My wife likes it, too. So yes... I'm already loving it!

I've been in my Steelheart now for 8 days minus being unlocked once at my request for a cleaning and to check on thing just to make sure everything was okay since any kind of physical and visual access is gone and every thing was okay. Hygine is a bit different in the Steelheart compared to the CB6K since it is so enclosed. The biggest problem is that when I pee it can pool in the end of the tube if i let it out too fast. So you have to restrict the flow a bit which takes a bit of getting used to esp if you really have to go. Even with restricting you can't get it all out. So when I'm done I wipe the hole with a piece of tp then I use another and stick an end in the hole to soak up as much as possible. Helps some but twice daily cleaning is still needed. I have follows thumper's method of a good cleaning with dial in the shower where I use a long Q tip type of thing so be able to scrub well and a warm water rinse before I go to bed. It's really not that much fuss and totally worth it to be able to wear such an amazing piece of steel...

When you lose all visual access it can take a while to get to where you trust that everything is ok. Even when I was wearing my Jailbird I liked to get out every couple of weeks just to make sure until I became more confident that everything was fine. So far the longest I have gone in the Steelheart is a little over two weeks but that was with the smaller tube which is a little harder to clean. The larger tube I have on now is really easy to clean. I have been told that I won't be out until after the first of the year unless there is some sort of pressing requirement.

I agree completely. It sounds like a lot of work but it really isn't that bad. What I have found to be interesting is that the smaller tube (31mm, very snug fit) stayed cleaner but was harder to clean. The larger tube (35mm, loose fit) is a lot easier to clean but doesn't stay as clean during the day.
