I'm kind-of considering a MM device, but I've got an idea and I was hoping that some of you MM wearers could weigh in on the feasibility of this.
I like to wear the cuff ring all the time, even when the device is off, but that means that the post on the regular MM devices is going to get in the way, if not actually be a danger to myself or others. I understand that the post is welded in place because there aren't any other options to keep the cage from twisting, i.e., there are no guide pins like the CBxxxx models.
The cuff rings look to be about 1/4" in profile - that is, they look to be made from a 1/4" bar that's been wrapped into a circle. Does anyone think that it would be possible to weld a smaller ring to the top of the cuff ring that would accept a 1/4" guide pin? In order to keep it from rotating, you could hold it in place with the same kind of security screw that you use on the cage side of the device. It could be drilled and tapped to go in from the top and would hold the locking pin in place.
Do any of you MM wearers see a problem with this? It moves the pin height 1/8" upwards of center, would that affect the fit or security? if so, could the matching section of the cage be moved to accommodate it?
And what about the twisting? Does anyone think that the cage would be held in place by this? I can't imagine that there's much twisting of the cage, but I've only got the CBxxxx styles to look at, so I'm not sure how it would work long-term.
Anything else that I might be missing?

Re: Idea for MM devices
I have been thinking of the same. My 45 mm ring is actually the 2 piece ring (was worried about being able to squeeze the bits through a ring that small).

The last time we played, I had the 45 mm ring on. And, I was so excited there was no way the ring was coming off very quickly. So, I just removed the pin and left the ring on. It was great.
So, 2 piece or solid, I would really like it if all of my rings had a removable pin.
In the Steelworxx devices, that is easy as they already have the guide pins.
Doesn't seem like there would be an issue with modifying the Mature Metal devices the exact same way?

After purchasing two of the MM Queens Keep devices, I can lend a little perspective on this. First, what makes this device fit properly and stay in place is getting the correct distance between the bottom of the cage and the bottom of the base ring. A perfect distance here firmly grips the scrotum and holds the device in place without being too tight. It's kind of counter-intuitive because, assuming you kept the same size base ring, you could choose to go smaller on the cage diameter and inadvertently cause the device to fit loose and be uncomfortable because you increased the cage bottom to base ring bottom distance. If you moved the cage upwards by doing the mod you suggest, you may have to go with a larger cage diameter to close the gap back down or possibly go with a smaller gap measurement.
No one discusses this in the measuring process. The best way I could think of to test it is to find your best fitting base ring, then take your cage diameter ring, holding the top at the height it would be with your mod, and slowly push the smaller ring in towards the base ring until you get a firm fit holding them perfectly parallel and approximate a 1/4 or 3/8 in gap. Not an easy thing to do. If you have this perfect fit with your CB-3000, you may consider measuring the distance from cage bottom to base ring.
As far as twisting, the MM device does move a little bit. Mine goes from the 12 o'clock to the 10 or 2 position and no farther. No sure why, but it is not noticable comfortwise to me and may result from interaction with clothing.??
I routinely leave only the base ring on. Once I remove the cage, I just slide the base ring around until the locking post is clear of my shaft and scrotum. It's as easy as turning your wedding band around on your finger.
I may have confused more than helped, but you have so many variables with the custom devices where every piece can be changed. However, when you change one measurement, it affects another. Please ask if you have more questions. It's really a crap shoot, but if you get it right, the fit is great. Don't be too disappointed if you don't achieve it the first time.

Yes, I could see how that could work. I think the biggest issue would be tolerance stacking. There can already be some movement with the lock or security screw. I found the lock to actually hold the cage on tighter than the security screw. What I am imagining what you are describing is a second joint similar to the cage to post joint. This would add a second area for movement.Tom Allen wrote: The cuff rings look to be about 1/4" in profile - that is, they look to be made from a 1/4" bar that's been wrapped into a circle. There have been a number of discussions about having the pin moved to the top of the ring and Thumper has a blog post about it that covers the issue pretty well. I know it has been done by MM at least a couple of times. I don't know if there was any follow up on how it worked out.Tom Allen wrote: Do any of you MM wearers see a problem with this? There isn't really much twisting of the cage but this would probably add to it. Hard to say how much and if it would have any negative effect. My gut says it is not a great long-term solution but I don't have anything to back that up. I think it will depend a lot on the craftsmanship of the new joint. Are you going to do it yourself?Tom Allen wrote:And what about the twisting? Does anyone think that the cage would be held in place by this? Have you considered Steelworxx? It won't work with the integrated lock but he makes a two part ring with removable post http://steelworxx.de/Bipartite-A-Ring-f ... b-47p.html I suspect he could probably make it with a solid 1 piece ring and removable post.Tom Allen wrote: Anything else that I might be missing?

Re: Idea for MM devices
I had gotten a short note from MM when I mentioned about a removable pin, and they said they were sure they could work something out. I think the guide pins would be a great addition to stop the twisting issue. Adding a
round stock ring would definately make it more comfortable.
It's a bummer if you want to, or have to leave the "A" ring on... and have to worry about the pin doing damage to my KH. I spin the ring around 1/2 way to provide some protection. I am working on a rough drawing/ draft to see if MM can mod the Pet-Trap that I now have.

Re: Idea for MM devices
Ok, I had to register to reply to this. I have purchased 3 MM devices in the last 2 years and finally got it right. Being High & Tight I finally found out the getting a top mounted post on the main ring assured success. I didn't realize this option was available. The side mounted posts were causing me unending aggravation as too much pressure on front of scrotum ( & it looked like football). I tried every combination of ring sizes, space changes, ring shapes. I currently am in Queen's Keep and ended up with 3 extra rings and a Jailbird cage that is too small.
Hope this helps someone. I did not give up and it was an extensive (expensive) trip but I finally won. Uh oh....

Re: Idea for MM devices
Tom, try Emailing MM with your question. I have had a custom device made for me that isn't available from his "off-the-shelf" items. It involved numerous emails and after we were comfortable with the design it came in just as I hoped. If there is something he can't do he will tell you. If he thinks it's something he can do but, you may not like it, he gives his reasons.
