I struggle with feeling like I’m not doing enough for Red these last few days. I know logically that I’m doing all I can, but I still feel like I’ve failed her on several levels.

Yes it’s probably gout, but it’s not in the usual spots people get it. It’s more like the entire flat of my foot is inflamed.
My next option if the new medication doesn’t work is a form a mild chemotherapy actually.

I’m sure the new diet I’m on is playing a part of why I’m experiencing more pain this time, since I’m still adjusting to make sure I get all the nutrients I need. I have to make sure I get enough protein since I’m eating so little, so supplements is necessary. I’ve read that there’s a correlation between increased intake in protein and gout.

Sam, I’m finally on a medication called allopurinol. It is more of a preventative that reduses the amount of purines in the blood so I hope it will prevent flare ups in the future.

I also take allopurinol daily and as a weight lifter I tend to take in a lot of protein every day. Factors like stress or the wrong food can still cause a flare up. If I am lucky I will feel my big toe go arthritic. Then I know a flare up is coming and I immediately do the Max Strength Go-out and head it off at the pass. But gout can move around. I have mostly flare ups in my right foot. But have had it also in my left foot, right elbow, left hand and the worst is around the right Achilles tendon. Those I don’t realize it’s a flare up till it’s in full swing.

As far as protein, dairy reduces the chance for gout flare up so skim milk or yogurts are good sources of protein as is plant based proteins like soy and whey.

Follow your doctors advice but get a bottle of the Maximun Strength Go-out and give it a try. It’s mostly concentrated tart cherry and celery seed extracts. Just stuff to think about. Hope you get better soon. I feel for you.

My only experience with gout is from a friend who would have flare up in his feet many years ago. Made the toughest man I know cry like a baby from the pain in his foot.
