For gout, the faster you start taking ibuprofen the better. It will nitp the gout in the bud if you catch it early.

You can get the same effect as a prescription with over any no-name over-the-counter ibuprofen. Just take 3 tablets four times a day. That totals 2400 mg, which is prescription strength. Always make sure you have food in your stomach before taking them. Ibuprofen can be hard on an empty stomach.

Thanks for the advice. As my body no longer produces the enzymes to break down uric acid I take Allopurinol daily and when I get a gout flare up I start taking Go-out which is concentrated tart cherries and celery seed. It’s natural, doesn’t upset my stomach and most of all works in a day or two. Last time I went to the doctor for a flare cost me $450 with office visits and blood work. Go-out is $30 on Amazon and works just as well as what the doctor prescribes.

The hard part of gout is knowing that a flare up is starting as it moves around. If my big toe goes arthritic I know a flare up has started as usually it happens in the front of my foot. But I have had gout flare ups in my left foot, right elbow, left hand and this time near my Achilles tendon.

But I appreciate the advice and will keep ibuprofen stocked at home and in my car.

I am luckier than you in this area. My flare ups have always been in one large toe or the other, and it's easy to recognize the beginnings of that particular kind of pain. I now know to nip it in the bud. Getting to it before it becomes established, I usually only need to take 3 - 200 mg tablets (approx 4 hour intervals) a couple of times, and it's gone. (If I feel it right in between meals, I'll have yogurt or some similar snack to cushion that first dose of ibuprofen.)

So my birthday is tomorrow. CS said she would be working all week and would have no time to spend with me but I could take this past Friday off work and she would too and we could spend the day doing whatever I wanted within reason. Then she took more work and Friday went away but we could go out Saturday after her grandkids baseball games. She got home at 4:00.
