I cannot remember the last time I needed any lubrication in the ring area, with the exception of an attempted size reduction that was too big a step-down.
You will also want to be alert for bits of skin 'crumpled up' or folded over, particularly the underside of the sac- becoming aroused and having a folded area pinched against itself can rather smart a bit. Tug at the edges to be sure that all is sitting smooth and flat.
If the ring is quite tight, sometimes hair being pulled, caught in the friction between ring and skin, can also cause a 'burning' sensation. If this is occurring, consider trimming or shaving the area to alleviate it.
