I would characterize my penis has having three distinct stages:
--totally "relaxed" (shrunken)
--flaccid but extended
--erect

In my case there is a couple of inch difference between #1 and #2.

I discovered the importance of the cage length when I moved from a normal CB6000 to a Holy Trainer v2 Small and felt much less discomfort during erections because of the shorter cage length of the HTv2.

I'm trying to determine what size would fit me well. For this, I made following test: I took a series of metalic rings, of a diameter I can fit around my flacid bird (for this, I have to help the insertion by pulling the skin and avoid a skin jamming at ring entry) and connected them with thin strings. I slept this ring collection on, and secured the string ends to a scrotum ring.
The result was something I thought confortable. I tried to erect (looking at some porn, just for science sake and it resulted in a funy state: cock was rather soft but I could entend or shrink it in length as if it was telescopic !
No pain at all. So I went to sleep like this.
Several hours later, I woke up in pain, with a much harder erection as with the porn viewing (my God, what can my dreams contain ?)
I suspect that this attempted cage diameter was fine, but not the length constraint, difficult to simulate with strings...

Like every one I have been having similar problems. Ok I am only into my third week of experimenting getting the ring sizes correct. For my experimenting I also got a cheep 4 ring curved unit.
As I am also a grower with considerable size difference between stage 1 and 2. The rings are all a very very snug fit on my penis and the cock or base ring although hinged is a good comfortable fit which I can wear for days without any problems. Apart from the odd pinching at the hinge.
Again the curved length looks to be a problem because when I am in stage 1, I have about 1/4 inch between the tip of my penis to the end of the cage. This I have found lets me start to grow which in turn starts to pull the base cock ring down my sack and away from the my body. But not painful. As with this cage their is about 1/2 inch gap between each ring on the top side of the curve, I have gently started closing the gap between the rings along the top, thus shortening the curved length.
I have yet to finish this experiment in shortening the curved length of the cage, but all part of getting all the sizes correct before ordering my custom unit.
One other thing I have been thinking about and am yet to decide on but I need more info on. With the top or penis head ring do people have that a smaller diameter like a glans ring?
