It really depends upon what you expect to be doing. Tumblr is a great platform for re-blogging and sharing pictures and small items from other blogs. It's not good for writing longer posts, especially if you're expecting comments. The Tumblr comment/messaging system is its worst feature.

Blogging on an established platform like Blogger or Wordpress or (shudder) LiveJournal is a better option if you plan on longer text posts and if you're hoping for discussion. As long as you don't post sexually explicit pictures, then you shouldn't run afoul of the TOS agreements, so unless some moron reports your blog for pornography, then there's no issue.

Alternately, you might contact LadyM and ask her about setting up a blog on her service. Fetblogger.com is a Wordpress-based platform, and should be pretty easy to use.
