That could be the case, I originally had the 50mm ring for the HT and then sized down to 45mm two weeks later. That seemed fine for about a week and then my tube broke so I had to wait for a replacement. Once I got my replacement seems when my problems started. It's the same tube but the finish quality wasn't nearly as good as my first one. So I polished it out and thought it was good enough.
