I'm finding myself popping out of my current metal ring, the next size down is 5 mm smaller (ordered) is that a big difference?
I've heard that even 1 mm can make a difference, so I'm afraid of 5 mm
What ways have you lessened the diameter of your metal ring? Medical tape? Electrical tape? Plastic tubing?
What ways to shrink ring?

Sport wrap bandage works well. Brown. Not blue.
Soft medical tapemis ok but takes ages and many rolls.
5mm is indeed a big drop.
Do you mean your ball is popping out? Alter the gap

Theres lots of guidance put there about ring sizing, personally i have one where I can just get my little fingertip in whilst flacid, when hard it won't move. No way can I "pop out".
As Mr P says you may want to adjust the gap between the ring and cage, I've read here of people doing that by gently bending steel cages, but be careful, every mm makes a difference.

JB Weld. They were actually plastic, but they might as well be metal now.

Do you mean your testicle is popping through? If so, that’s more to do with the gap between the cage and the ring. Cobra sells a thicker ring to shrink that gap without shrinking the ring diameter.
I bought a pack of rings to test what I could tolerate. Since then I’ve figured out a thicker ring with a curve means I could go smaller than what the 5mm thick ring had suggested.
I just downsized my ring yesterday from a curved Cobra #3 to a #2. That’s 3.2mm smaller. It looks and feels a lot smaller. So far it’s great! Even the #3 was causing pain at night at times, particularly when it slid forward. It seems that the #2 stays further back avoiding the painful spot.
