Ordered a Jailbird yesterday:
Base ring: Oval, 1 7/8 inches
Cage Length: 1 3/4 inches
Cage diameter: 1 3/8 inches, with one extra ring around the cage
Gap: 3/8 inches
Now I just have to wait for the darn thing. In the meantime I'm having butterflies in my stomach - a mix of excitement and fear.

Congrats on your order! You won't be disappointed with a Mature Metal device. They provide first class service. You are correct in that the hardest part is waiting for the device to arrive. Your cage diameter is the same as mine. I'm curious how you arrived at the sizing?

wishful4: I am also waiting for my MM JailBird to be completed and shipped. A recent e-mail from Mistress MM last week stated that might occur on June 29th or 30th. As you said, "the hardest part is waiting for the device to arrive." CaptivatedCaveman had written on June 14th that he had ordered the set of plastic "MM sizing rings," so I would guess that he used them to determine the measurements for his order. In my own case, I "arrived at the sizing" of the cage diameter at one and 1/8 inches using the smallest of the nine plastic rings. With the next larger ring, one and 1/4 inches, I could still stick two fingers underneath, while with the smallest ring it was either one finger or none at all. CaptivatedCaveman: I also have "a mix of excitement and fear."

Re: Thinking about metal
Yes, I did use Mature Metal's plastic sizing rings. I also measured my cock in its flaccid state with a ruler several times a day, sometimes right after coming out of the CB6000S, sometimes not. The length kept coming out at about 2 inches. Just to double check I also gently compressed my cock in on itself (like collapsing a telescope) as it was resting on the ruler and found that below 1 1/2 inches I didn't think my cock would be comfortable. MM recommends taking a 1/4 inch off your measurement so that's what I did. I almost went for a 1 1/2 inch cage but felt like that was too big a jump from my current device.
When I used the sizing rings I held my cock at 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inches and tested the fit. Sometimes I started with a large ring and moved down, other times with a smaller ring and moved up. All this had to be done a little at a time though, as the contact stimulated me enough to start growing. 1 3/8 inch diameter was a little snug, more so on the corona, the widest part of the head. 1 1/2 inches, on the other hand, felt slightly too big. It barely touched the shaft and only made significant contact at the corona.
I was thinking of asking if my device could be made with a diameter of 1 7/16 inches when I realized something. On the Jailbird the metal rings are 1/4 inch thick while the rods running parallel to the cock are 1/8 inch. Just looking at the pictures you can see that the cage is narrowest at the rings. Elsewhere there is an extra 1/16 inch of space on either side of the cage, 1/8 inch in total.
I contacted MM and confirmed that this is true. I also shared my reasoning and was advised to go with the 1 3/8 inch diameter cage. Since I wanted an extra ring around the shaft anyway this works out. The cage will mostly be 1 3/8 inch around my shaft, where I need it narrower, and 1 1/2 inches around the glans.
The rest is educated guesswork, but the gap and base ring size are cheap to change. I use the smallest spacer on the CB6000S, 1/4 inches, but because there is some play between the ring and the cage, the actual gap at the bottom can go as wide as 1/2 inch when I wear the 1 7/8 inch base ring. That's the smallest base ring I can tolerate but I keep popping out of it. The 1 1/2 inch base ring, on the other hand, is too tight for comfort but keeps me secure. With that one the actual gap is 3/8 inch. So that's what I went with.
As for the base ring diameter, I considered going up to 2 inches for extra comfort, but everything I've read suggests going a little smaller when switching from plastic to metal, so I decided to keep things where they are for now. It's only $10 to change later if I need to.
I think that about covers it. Any other questions?

Yes, why order just a single ring? I ordered three with my Steelworxx, expecting thatCaptivatedCaveman wrote:Any other questions?
1) my body will probably change over time to adapt to smaller rings
2) I wasn't completely sure how the rings would compare to what I was using
3) day to day, there might be reasons to move up or down a size
With the Steelworxx devices, getting a new ring meant shipping the original tube back, which I wanted to avoid.

Re: Thinking about metal
Just for budgetary reasons. We're already straining our wallets to make the purchase at all. Just the extra cage ring was a real indulgence. If we both hadn't taken to chastity like ducks to water we wouldn't be spending the money.Whizbang wrote:Yes, why order just a single ring?
Earlier in this thread I said we were planning to take our time to save up for a Steelworxx device. That plan changed once it became apparent that I can't make the CB6K work for me 24/7. Also the Mature Metal products slowly grew on me.
If I have an issue, I can send it back for only $10 to modify the base ring or gap. A bit of a pain, but much better than shipping back and forth to Germany.

Re: Thinking about metal
Even though I have a pretty good fit now, I am planning to reduce the gap to 1/4 in on my 1 7/8 in base ring and have MM stretch my 1 3/4 in base ring another 1/16 in if he can. I'm still in search of the perfect fit working with the cage I have(1 3/8 dia X 2 in length). My 1 7/8 in base ring fits 90 percent of the time with no issues unless I'm very relaxed and soaped up, then I can pull out the back. The 1 3/4 in does not allow pull out under any condition, but is uncomfortably tight much of the time. By making the adjustment to both rings, I'm hoping to find the magic bullet for a perfect fit as far as comfort and security. FYI, I used the same size base ring as the CB series. Has anyone had the gap reduced on their base ring? What difference did it make in the fit?CaptivatedCaveman wrote: I think that about covers it. Any other questions?

Re: Thinking about metal
My Jailbird is shipping today!
And I had just emailed them yesterday to ask if it was too late to reduce the size of the base ring. I got sick and tired of continually popping out of the 1 7/8 ring so I decided to try the 1 3/4 inch ring one last time. And surprise, it feels much better now. It took a few months, but my body seems to have finally adjusted to it.
I figure I'll see how the Jailbird fits as is and then send it back for adjustment if necessary.

Re: Thinking about metal
CaptivatedCaveman: I have now found it necessary to send my Jail Bird back to MM twice, and I am currently waiting in my second "Time Out" period. The first time was to have a second, larger base ring made, as I discovered that the ring I had ordered, of one and 5/8 inches, was just too tight. When I received the new, larger base ring of one and 3/4 inches, I did not expect to experience any further problems. However, after barely two days of wear, I found that I was suffering from the dreaded "burning sensation" caused by a gap that is too narrow. So, it was sent back again, to have the original gap of 3/8 inch widened by 1/16 inch. So, be prepared to "see how the Jail Bird fits" "and then send it back for adjustment if necessary," as it appears that every new custom-made CD has a "Break-In" period. wishful4: I have found that the thin Stainless Steel base rings manufactured by MM feel very different from the wider, plastic rings of "the CB series," so I would not recommend depending upon them to obtain accurate measurements.
