Since I'm still new to this, isn't it important to have some air and ability to rinse with water important? I am currently removing it and cleaning thouroughly every 2 - 3 days. The bulgiing skin isn't causing discomfort, but i wonder if a larger tube size would help.

If your skin is already bulging through the air holes, you're not getting any air from them anyway.
I do think being able to clean it fully is important, and I used to get allowed out every 2-3 days to clean and shave everything, under supervision
