I did a little more investigating about the material. I took a file to the 50mm ring since I will never use it. It is definetly chrome plated over a copper colored material that I assume is a bonding agent for the chrome.

Beneath that, the base ring is a silver colored metal that is weldable an not magnetic. ????

Linus - I bet our suppliers got these from the same manufacturer. They look identical and have the same lock with 3 keys (wolf dog on the lock and WD on the keys). I did wrap a few layers of electrical tape around the lock to keep it from rattling against the cage.

I would like to find a 5 digit combination lock that is very, very small. But I doubt something like that is available.

Jack,
I am using a 3 digit combination lock. It's sufficiently small. Serves the purpose. Regarding the quality, they are so cheap that your KH can change it every couple of months!

I had a look at that ebay link provided a couple of comments back.
At the start of the description it says "Made from quality stainless steel and alloy", then a couple of lines down says "Made from quality steel and alloy with a nickel plate finish".
So kinda contradictive and I wouldn't be sure what you might receive.

Thanks for the link Tom, it seems that you have seen this type of manufacture before. I am sure my CD is exactly the same, a chrome plated steel alloy. But luckily I am not having any issues with tarnishing or rust.

I was concerned with the issue of rust when I initially ordered my cheap CD. So, I started thinking of ways to resolve the issue if it became a problem. I was also concerned about sizing since it is not a custom device and I had nothing more than what I had read to go by.

Painting did not seem to be the best option. While there are very good/hard paints available, I did not think I could acquire them in a small quantity for testing. I also could not see myself taking the CD to the local powder coating shop.

But, there is a product called Plasti Dip. It is a solvent based liquid coating that costs about $10 per can and is intended for making plastic grips on pliers and such. But I thought it might work for adding a plastic coating to the base ring or the entire CD. If you wanted to tighten things up a bit, you could add additional coatings.

I wonder if it would be hard enough to withstand extended wear of the CD?

Just to pitch in, I have ordered and now wearing the same device from eBay as Jack, from the same vendor I think. The middle (2nd) of the 3 rings is identical to the one I used on my CB6000s, so it fits perfectly for me. I am really pleased with how well this fits and overall its quality (genuine stainless steel or not). For £19 (!!) it looks plenty long lasting and durable, and a cleaner alternative to my plastic (genuine) CB6000s that cost me £100 and required weekly thorough cleans. This obviously has a little more weight, but it really is extremely comfy and I wore it for the first night with zero discomfort. Additionally, after discovering I could relieve myself in the CB6000s after playing with the padlock, this seems far more secure (and ultimately frustrating / satisfying!). Maybe not the custom made, high pedigree materials product some are toting, but I really dont see how you can bash this for such a great price (and service from the ebay vendor). Very happy!

That CD purchased from ebay.co.uk looks identical to the Jail House CB that I just received from Extreme Restraints, at a price of $139.00. I just removed it after three days of wear, which included showering, and I can see minor rust spots beginning to form along the bottom interior of the cage, along with a discoloration of the steel surface. I therefore doubt that this is stainless steel! I could try using a steel wool pad to remove the rust spots, but that would probably ruin the rest of the chrome surface. Was this CD purchase a waste of money?

Mike,

I think there are a bunch of them out there with very, very similar design by various manufacturers. Don't know what to tell you. I have been wearing mine almost 24/7 for the past 7 weeks, work, showers, etc. It is still bright and shinny, no rust or other issues.

My only real complaint is the top locking post and the pad lock. The next one I buy will have an integrated lock!

Well, I know that I have very acidic skin and perspiration, which is why I cannot wear Sterling Silver. I tarnish it immediately, so all of my jewelry has to be 14K Gold, and my current glasses have Titanium frames, because the previous frames corroded. Inexpensive cock rings that I used to purchase at local adult stores, which also had chrome plating, didn't last long either. I have already ordered the set of plastic measuring rings from Mature Metal, and so will probably look to buy a real, stainless steel Jail Bird! It's either that, or try to find a shop to make a CD out of 14K Gold!
