Re: Thinking about metal
Well, today I took the plunge into real stainless steel, and I ordered a JailBird from Mature Metal (not Chastity Heaven). Using the plastic measuring rings, and holding a ruler up against the CB6000S and the ER Jail House, I came up with measurements of one and 5/8" for the base ring, one and 1/8" diameter inside the cage, 2" in cage length, and a gap of 3/8". Everyone was right in saying that you need the plastic rings and some experience in wearing some other CD's in order to truly come up with accurate measurements. For example, both the CB6000S and the Jail House have base rings which jump from one and 1/2" to one and 3/4", with nothing in between. The Jail House was much too tight at one and 1/2", but I could easily pull out of the cage with the one and 3/4" ring. MM has an available ring size of one and 5/8", thereby splitting the difference, which should be just right. I have been wearing the plastic ring in that size all day, with no problems. With the next to smallest spacing post on the CB6000S, the gap was 3/8", the same as on the Jail Bird, so that measurement should also be all right. The inside cage diameter of one and 1/8", based upon the smallest of the plastic rings, should provide the snugness of a closed tube, while retaining the openness of cage bars to allow for easy cleaning. I can see that you really do have to work your way up from the other CD's, in order to be ready for stainless steel!

Make sure you are prepared for when that shows up. It is going to be really, really small compared to even the CB6000s.Mike Bekoff wrote:Well, today I took the plunge into real stainless steel, and I ordered a JailBird from Mature Metal.

I had one that was those basic measurements but 2 1/4" long and I was shocked by how small it was. I did eventually wear it for a long time but it took a while to get used to it, about a month. You might want to go check some of my posts to see if you can find a write up on it.
I'm not trying to discourage you, just prepare you for when it arrives.

Are you saying that I may have ordered it too small? I think that all of the measurements were accurate. They just added up to a small CD. The MM measuring instruction sheet, which came with the plastic rings, states about cage length: "If you measure different lengths order the shorter length. Then subtract 1/4". It is always better to order a little short than too long."

Re: Thinking about metal
When I got my metal device we both thought I had made a mistake in ordering too small. Compared to the CB6ks it looked tiny. After a few hours and the excitment wore off I began to realize what comfort was. I wouldn't want it any larger in any way. If you followed the directions for measuring the cage that Mature Metal gave I would feel confident that it is the right size.

Thank you! Atone had me scared there for a minute! I spent considerable time today in checking, re-checking, and re-re-checking the measurements, and so I am certain that I got them right!

No, I'm just saying that when you open that box be prepared for that to be a small cage, especially compared to the CB6000s. I don't know how big you are, it might be too bigMike Bekoff wrote:Are you saying that I may have ordered it too small? I think that all of the measurements were accurate. I have had a lot of different devices and when the one that was that size showed up it was a bit of a shock to see how small it was. It ended up being worn more than any other device I have had other than the Steelheart I am in now (which also appeared *really* small when I first got it).

The most important measurements are the cage diameter and the length. They are in stone once done. Everything else can be changed at a nominal cost. Also, the right distance between the bottom of the cage and the bottom of the base ring is what holds the device firmly in place. You could have a tighter fit by going a little larger on the cage diameter, thus decreasing this distance. Remember you have to be able to clean inside the cage, too.

Was in your very same place 2 months ago. MM was great with advice. I wore the CB6000s for quite a while and got it adjusted perfectly. Cage was fine in width (1 3/8") but I wanted to go a little shorter so I opted for the 2" in length since I'm a grower. I wore a 1 7/8" base ring and they suggested I try going down to the 1 3/4". I wore it for a week with problems so I ordered a 1 7/8". Been wearing the new 1 7/8" ring since 5/11 without any issues, very comfortable. I may tho try later to go back into the 1 3/4". I managed to get down to the 1/4" gap size with the 6000's. MM suggested that I go up to the 3/8" since the metal doesn't "give" like plastic. I'm glad I did and yes their is no "give" when wearing metal.
Everyone is right in advising you that the cage is the most important decision for you at this point. Ask questions from MM since they are the experts. They won't mind a bit.
Best of luck!
