Cutting down outer stabilizer pins of CB-6000s

Post by sherulestherooster »

Hey,
Perhaps this is a naive question for someone who has owned his CB-6000S for so many years, but I *finally* feel that I have a good ring/spacer combination, AND my wife seems to be more interested in locking me up. So I use the smallest spacer, and I realize that the outer stabilizer pins poke out quite a bit (I posted a photo of myself locked on my blog, if interested ~ it's the white post that's not attached to the lock). They're kinda pokey (KH doesn't like that) so I thought maybe I should cut them down now that I feel pretty good about the fit.

So my question: do you guys do that? Does it screw up the integrity of the device? If you do, what would you recommend to cut it, e.g., Exacto knife? I'm not the handiest guy, and I am concerned that I might totally screw things up - I'd also like to make sure there weren't any sharp edges.

For a further modification tangent...
I suspect that the CB rings could be improved by having the ring cross sections be circular (for the math nerds among us, in the shape of a torus, or more like a doughnut) instead of flat, similar to to a cock ring and my wedding band... not perpendicular to the front (not sure I'm explaining this well). So what I propose to do is to take one of the rings and file it down to make it circular around the ring, thinking this would be more comfortable. I took a knife to the smallest ring (which I could never fit into) and it didn't work so well. So my challenge question is: do you think the benefit would be worth it, and if so, what would be the best way to make a smooth torus ring?

Cheers

You can cut the pins down and it will cause no problems.

I used a side cutter on the last CB device I used. This will cause the pin to be pointed. Then I took a file and rounded it so it was shaped like it originally was. I would suggest you leave about a 1/16" past the cage when you make the cut. After you file it down it will be around a 1/8". You want a little sticking past the cage.

I cut mine down years ago. Fairly recently, while experimenting with reduced ring sizes, I wanted to increase the the size of the spacer- not enough length on the pins. Might want to leave just a little bit. Or not.

If you cut them to short, yank them out with pliers and get new ones from keptforher.com.

BTW, I totally agree about the torus shape. I modes my CB6K to fit the 3k rings because the squared profile was really uncomfortable.

How to fix the 6k rings? Lots of sanding.

Thanks for the feedback! Tom, how can I modify to accept the 3K rings? Are the "torus" rings still available?
