Just ordered a Jailbird from Mature Metal a little over a week ago.
This is the first time I've ordered a brand new custom steel device, and course I'm very eager to see if I have nailed the specs...I feel pretty sure I'm going to have to have at least one modification made to the specs after taking delivery.
So....
How long did it take you to work out that you had the correct specs (or get things squared away if you didn't)?
If you had to switch over to a reduced ring size...how long did it take to figure that out?
I'm just curious as to how long it took before you could say "aha, now I know my true measurements".
any input appreciated.
How long for things to settle out (fit wise) with a new JB?

Re: How long for things to settle out (fit wise) with a new
First, Congratulation on making the move to a custom stainless steel device. It took me quite a while to make the change from plastic and I've never regretted it.
Lucky for me and with the advice from MM I got the cage diameter right the first time since that cannot be modified. I also did well with the gap measurement but that can be easily changed.
As for the base ring size, well that took a few months before I settled on what was comfortable and what was secure. I did eventually go down one size on the base ring. I tried a year later to move down one more size but had issues after a few days of wear. You sometimes wonder, "it feels so good but could it be even better?".
On the advice from several members here I did send my cage in to have a half inch taken off the length last year. It made a difference in both comfort and convenience. Convenience being that I sit right at the end of the cage so I'm pretty much always lined up to pee. I now use a urinal with confidence that I'm not going to make a mess.

Re: How long for things to settle out (fit wise) with a new
Generally, you should wear a new device at least 48 hours before making any decisions about sizing. The exception to this is the base ring. If it rubs you raw, take it off. Don't even think about lube. Send the device back to MM and ask them to adjust the size to a larger ring. It is inexpensive. If your ball escapes, you need a smaller ring. Same advice as above.
If you thing the cage is the wrong size, wear it for at least a month or two before deciding what to do. When I got my shorter cage, it felt wrong for about a month before my body learned to accept it.
Remember, with the exception of the base ring, it takes time for your body to get accustomed to a new cage.

I agree to Tame Lion
Once you are accustomed to the cage, it is great fun being locked in a steel cage!
