Steelheart questions

Post by hristo33 »

I have a couple of questions on the steelheart.

First, for those who choose the original steelheart over the steelheart 2. Why did you choose the more closed model? It would seem that the 2 with more holes would be cleaner. Also urinating in the original seems like it would be messy. Does any urine get trapped in the cage and drip out later?

Second, need help with sizing. I am confused with the total length measurement. Is this cage length? Is the Ring factored into the measurement? If my MM measurements are
Main ring 1.5 in (choose 38 mm)
Internal diameter 1 1/8 in (choose 29 mm)
Cage length 2 in (approx 50 mm).
How do I calculate the total length?

Thanks!

I am not an expert in the steelheart (or any other device for that matter) but I have had several MM devices and now have a steelheart so I can give you a little bit of insight.

I was in a 1 1/8" diameter jailbird for a long time. I didn't think the 29mm steelheart would be big enough so I discussed this with Dietmar and he agreed to make a 31mm diameter tube. I am glad I did this because I am pretty sure I would not have been able to use the 29mm tube. Unlike the jailbird there is no where for extra little bits to push out. It all has to fit in the tube.

For the length I just let him know I wanted a 57mm tube and he figured out the overall length. The length worked out fine.

As for urinating in the steelheart. That was one of my biggest concerns too. It is actually very easy to urinate in, just go slow. The process of urinating in it is much easier than in the jailbird, nothing to line up. There is urine left in the tube afterward though. When possible I use a little toilet paper stuck in the end to soak it up. If I can't do that right away I just shake a little and let it drip out and then get to it as soon as I can. I do have to clean it at night, I didn't have to do that with my jailbird.

I think the steelheart 2 would be much more difficult to urinate in. There is no real opening at the end and the hole in the cross bars looks like it is too small to ever get it lined up right. I think it would spray a lot but I don't have personal experience with it.

I have only had my steelheart for a week so I am still figuring a few things out but I plan to post my experiences soon.

Thanks for the replies. Makes sense that a larger diameter tube would be needed to accommodate the extra skin. I didn't take that into consideration.

I really like the idea of the closed tube as the bits that stick through cages hurt after a while.

Atone I can't wait to read your indepth review.

I don't know that an in depth review is in the works but I do have some experiences to share, I want to get a few more consecutive days "under the belt" first. I had to go device-less for a couple of days last week due to a trip so I am only four days without removal. I am hoping to go to the weekend and then take everything off for a good inspection.
