For a short while, I worked with a former locksmith keying locks. One thing he was quite adamant about was never to put oil in a lock. He claimed that the oil will built up over time (as more is added), and trap dust in the tumblers and eventually jam it up. He recommended using only graphite to lubricate the tumblers.

I never did think to clarify with him though if that also applied to padlocks, as they are usually more exposed to the elements than are door (locksets), and hence I would think more prone to corrosion. Of course, this was long before I got into chastity.

One thing I can say for certain though, is if you put oil into a lock, never add graphite later - that will surely "gum it up".

3 years with the same master lock. Shower daily and swim with it and have never used any oil. Never have had a problem with it.
