As is mine, dabbing the tube opening seems to take care of any leaking. I also give it a shake the last dab to make sure I've got all/most of the residual in the tube out of it.

I unscrew the cap, pee and dab with a tissue. Works MOST of the time. YMMV

I think one could file down the lock portion that sticks up above the joining pieces.
