For what it's worth, it is still happening when I try to go to page 2 of search results.

It affects all of the View and Search links.

The issue is that the board software has had an update to prevent this, but the site hosting does not yet support the newer update. They are "looking into it," but I don't think that our little group has a high priority rating.

Just give me SSH access to the server and I'll get it cleaned up...

Is there a nightly backup of the boards/DB?

I'm more than happy to help you get this straightened out and help ensure (a) it doesn't happen again and (b) if it does happen again, it's easy to resolve.

They probably have altered a javascript file or the .htaccess file in the root of the site.

Yes. It is a real nuisance. Hope you can sort it soon.

If I were you I'd install one of the plugins mentioned in the threads. I don't think the issues will be fixed anytime soon. I've seen several people offer to help, but I don't think the admins have taken anybody up on their offer. At this point it's been over a month.

I don't know that I can do that on an iPad and that is my main browsing device. Seems like it would be good to fix since I imagine that it scares away more than a few potential new users. Forums seem pretty quiet overall.

Just an update; Right now I'm just waiting to hear back from Thumper on opening up access to the GoDaddy account so we can turn it over to one of you with more gearhead experience than we have. It's been frustrating for all of us, but I think that this might be the best approach.

Also, the links will redirect to spam sites, but as far as I can tell, will not cause any further damage. But please don't go experimenting, just in case I've missed something.
Update: I've been working on trying to get a handle on this crap, and it looks like a clickbait outfit in Hungary is responsible...at least from what I can grasp from running a debug on the scripts.

Workaround for FireFox users:

Type in about:config in the address bar.

Look for the string "network.http.referer.spoofSource"

Right-click on the line and select "Toggle", which will change the value to "true".

That's it, problem gone.

(Warning: I don't know if this will break something else for a different site.)
